Idaho's Medicaid expansion was approved through a ballot initiative after the legislature declined to expand the program. The expansion added more than 90,000 Idahoans to Medicaid. Idaho administers SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, and cash assistance through its Department of Health and Welfare. The state has high rates of agricultural employment, and seasonal workers often have fluctuating SNAP eligibility.
