WIOA Job Training

Free job training, education, and placement services.

About This Program

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is the primary federal law governing workforce development. It funds American Job Centers — physical locations in communities across the country — that provide free job search assistance, career counseling, resume writing, skills assessment, and connections to training programs. Services are available to adults, dislocated workers, and youth. For workers who need retraining, WIOA provides Individual Training Accounts (ITAs) — funds that can be used at approved training providers for certifications, vocational programs, and occupational training in in-demand industries. Healthcare, information technology, transportation, manufacturing, and construction are common priority sectors, but approved programs vary by state and local area. The Training Provider List in your state shows approved programs and their credential outcomes. Dislocated workers — people who have lost their jobs due to layoff, plant closure, or economic conditions — receive priority for many WIOA services. Rapid Response teams work with large employers conducting mass layoffs to connect affected workers with services quickly. WIOA also funds Trade Adjustment Assistance for workers affected by foreign trade. To access WIOA services, visit your nearest American Job Center. The CareerOneStop website at careeronestop.org has a locator. You do not need to be receiving unemployment benefits to use American Job Center services.
